On Wednesday, the Federal High Court in Lagos sentenced Okoye Blessing Nwakaego to three years in prison for using the social media app TikTok to cyberstalk Nollywood actress Eniola Badmus.

Following her guilty plea to a two-count allegation of cyberstalking, Justice Nicholas Oweibo convicted Nwakaego.


The magistrate, however, took into account the offender's remorse and offered her the option of paying a N150,000 fine in lieu of jail time.


According to the indictment, Nwakaego and one Chimabia (now at large) conspired to commit the offense in Lagos between December 2022 and July 2023.


According to Eniola Badmus, Nigerians purchase the cheapest gasoline in the world.


Using her mobile number, the pair was also alleged to have caused the transmission of communications via Tiktok, Gossipmill TV, Remedy Blog, and other social media networks.


According to the police, her conduct was "grossly offensive, false, and intended to cause Badmus annoyance, inconvenience, danger, insult, injury, criminal intimidation, enmity, hatred, and needless anxiety."


The court heard that the offense violated Cybercrimes Act 2015 sections 24(1)(b)(2)(a)(c) and 27.


Nosa Uhumwangho, the prosecution attorney who examined the case facts, told Justice Oweibo that Nwakaego confessed to making the video after being prompted by a male friend.

Okoye said, “What happened was that a friend of mine, Fortune Ibe, said if I should come out and talk about Mrs Eniola Badmus, he was going to send me N200k because I told him about my rent.

“That was what prompted the video. I am so sorry; I just did that because I was desperate to pay my house rent. I just did it because of the money.”

According to Nosa, over three million people viewed the defamatory video online.
