Hilda Baci awarded record for world’s longest cooking marathon

Guinness World Records has determined that Hilda Effiong Bassey, also known as Hilda Baci, has broken the record for the longest cooking marathon (individual) with a duration of 93 hours and 11 minutes.
The 26-year-old Nigerian chef began her four-day kitchen stint on Thursday, May 11, and proceeded through Monday, May 15, preparing over 100 meals.
Hilda attempted to establish a record of 100 hours, but nearly seven hours were subtracted from her final total because she took extra minutes for one of her rest breaks early in the attempt.
As with all 'longest marathon' records, the participant must take a five-minute respite for every hour of continuous activity. If not utilized, these rest breaks can accumulate. Those were the only moments Hilda could sleep or use the restroom during the attempt.
The previous record of 87 hours and 45 minutes was established in 2019 by Lata Tondon (India).
Hilda attempted to break this record in order to "put Nigerian cuisine on the map" and "inspire young African women to pursue their dreams."
"I also chose to break this record in an effort to test my limits and abilities," she added.

Hilda prepared for the event by developing a 35-item menu "as a guide" for each meal she would prepare.
Her team procured additional food items "based on what was depleted" during the cook-a-thon.
Hilda's attempt to break the world record went viral on social media, with millions of Nigerians and others following her progress via Instagram live stream.
In fact, Hilda's cook-a-thon was so popular that our website crashed for two days due to the overwhelming amount of traffic from her legions of devoted admirers.

Several prominent Nigerian figures, including the Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, and award-winning vocalist Tiwa Savage, visited Hilda in support of her record attempt.

During her record-setting cook-a-thon, Hilda was required to follow a number of rules:
There must always be at least two items being cooked or prepared.
A sous-chef may assist with preparation, cleanup, and kitchen organization, but the individual attempting the record must do all the cooking.
One of the most essential guidelines for our food-related record attempts is that all items must be consumed immediately after cooking.
In order to accomplish this, Hilda invited all Nigerians to come consume her freshly prepared meals. The Festus Fajemilo Foundation received all of the surplus food.
Hilda stated that her team's and her own objective for this event was to make it accessible to all and to serve the less fortunate.
According to Hilda, each container of food she prepared could feed 30–35 people, and "appropriate stock control" was implemented to prevent food waste.

After earning a sociology degree from Madonna University in Nigeria, Hilda decided to pursue a culinary career. She was influenced by her mother, the chef Lynda Ndukwe.
Hilda achieved success after success, hosting the television program Dine on a Budget in 2020 and the Jollof Face-off in 2021. Hilda, representing her native Nigeria, defeated Leslie Kumordzie of Ghana to claim victory.
Currently, in 2023, she holds a legitimate Guinness World Records title. Gratifications, Hilda!
