OOU launches work study programme for students

The administration of Olabisi Onabanjo University in Ago Iwoye, Ogun State, has announced the launch of a work-study program that will enable competent students to earn money while attending classes.

According to a statement released by the university's registrar, Femi Ogunwomoju, the initiative would reduce the number of students who drop out of school due to financial constraints and reduce the financial burden on parents and guardians.

Mr. Ogunwomoju stated that the program, administered by the directorate of entrepreneurship studies, "will enable students with demonstrable and proven vocational skills to work at the university and earn some stipends while still attending classes."

About programme

OOU stated that it introduced the work study program during its 40th anniversary in February to combat the institution's rising dropout rate.

Professor Ayodeji Agboola, Vice Chancellor of the university, remarked, "When we noticed the rate at which students were dropping out, we conducted a SWOT analysis to determine why." "We realized that the most significant issue there is financing. Therefore, we implemented immediate financing, but it cannot cover all of them."

According to him, the university therefore decided to accommodate 500 students in the work-study program.

"We are confident that the majority of them will be accommodated through work studies, which will also solve the problem," he said.

University students who are qualified and interested in participating in the program are required to fill out a form.
