Rapper AKA shot dead in drive-by shooting on Durban’s Florida Road

Durban—According to police sources in Durban, rapper Kiernan "AKA" Forbes was fatally shot on Florida Road on Friday night.
Another person, thought to be AKA's bodyguard, was injured, while an unidentified individual, believed to be AKA's close friend, was fatally shot.

Prior to provincial police confirming the occurrence, IOL independently corroborated details of the shooting with well-placed police sources who are not authorized to speak to the media and therefore cannot be identified.
Later, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, a police spokesperson, acknowledged that officers were investigating two murders but had yet to determine their motivations.
He verified, without naming names, to Forbes that one of the deceased was a popular musician.
It is believed that AKA was standing outside the Wish Restaurant when he was shot and killed by a passing vehicle.
It is thought that two unidentified vehicles began to fire soon before 10 p.m.
On Friday evening, when an IOL team arrived on the scene, police had already roped off the area.
Customers of a nearby restaurant told IOL that AKA was standing outside Wish when he was shot and killed.
Garrith Jamieson, a spokesman for ALS Paramedics, stated that Florida Road has been closed off following a gunshot incident on Florida Road in which two fatalities have been confirmed.
Among the deceased, according to Jamieson, was a "renowned rapper."
The name of the second victim is currently unclear; however, he is believed to be a close friend of AKA.
According to social media posts, AKA was scheduled to play at a Durban nightclub called YUGO as part of his birthday celebrations.
His close friend, Da Les, expressed amazement on social media.
