Scott, Izzy Israel A four-year-old boy in Augusta, Georgia, who said he was afraid of drowning, died while taking swimming lessons.
Before his second swimming lesson, which resulted in his death, Israel "Izzy" Scott had reportedly asked, "What if I drown?", according to his heartbroken mother.
The child passed away in June while enrolled in a swim lesson for beginners.
Because of his death, people are pushing for laws that would keep kids from drowning while being watched by an adult.
According to a GoFundMe website for the Israel "Izzy" Spencer Scott Foundation, "We are determined that our beautiful Izzy's death will not be in vain."
"Izzy’s death has touched so many hearts. Many people have reached out wanting to be a part of this process with us in honor of our Izzy."
According to Dori Scott, she decided to schedule lessons for her kids while they were on vacation.
She said: "He was very pleased since he had always wanted to swim when I told him he would be swimming. Water was always dangerous, yet he liked it so much anyhow.
Why am I putting that on? Dori's son asked as he was getting ready for his second class.
He asked his mother, "What if I drown?" Prior to the swim lesson where he died, When I told him he had a swim class, he responded, "I don't want to go," but he was in a good mood, Dori recounted.
He asked, "But what if I drown?" and I said, "You're not going to drown, foolish," to which he responded by laughing.
Dori drove Israel to a private residence in Hephzibah, Georgia, for the lesson and waited in her car until it was over. Augusta is about 15 miles south of Hephzibah.
When the parents were present, the teacher "told me the parents weren't allowed to stay because I think the kids didn't act correctly," according to Dori.
As Dori sat in the car, a parent knocked on her window and said, "Come get your baby."
They still had approximately six minutes remaining, so it wasn't time. I noticed that she was crying when I took another look at her, "Dorai recounted.
I screamed at that point because I thought something was wrong. My entire existence was transformed in an instant.
When Dori walked through the gate and onto the property, she saw her kid passed out and frothing at the mouth by the pool.
When I arrived, my son was on the side of the pool while they were performing CPR. I had been sobbing and screaming the entire way up there. She reported that he was not responding.
He was foaming at the mouth and had no heartbeat, so I could tell by looking at him that he had been under the water for some time.
"I asked the swimming instructor what happened, and all she could tell me was she didn’t know. She said, "I don’t know. I instructed the youngsters to leave the pool. I'm not sure.
According to Dori, she yelled, "Let me hold my kid!" as she stood by the water. She was not permitted to leave, though, while he was undergoing CPR and chest compressions.
Israel was taken to emergency care and then sent to Children's Hospital of Georgia.
"They finally got a heartbeat, but once they did a CT scan, he was already brain dead. He had been submerged for too long, according to Dori.
"He passed in the early hours of June 15, 2022. Never did I get an apology.
The nearly 50-year-old swim teacher, Lexie TenHuisen, who Dori found on Facebook, claimed to have made sure all the children were out of the pool before exiting the water.
The Burke County Sheriff's Office declared last month that there was not enough evidence to bring charges against the swim teacher.
