The Governing Council of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, has confirmed Professor Agboola Ayodeji Johnson's appointment as the eleventh Vice-Chancellor of the university.
The appointment was approved at the 206th Special Meeting held on October 5, 2022.
Professor of Cancer Pathology Ayodeji Olayinka Johnson Agboola was born on July 4, 1970.
He attended Ogun State University (now Olabisi Onabanjo University) Ago-Iwoye, where he received his M.B. Ch. B. in 2001.
Subsequently, between 2001 and 2002, he completed his required housemanship at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu and became fully registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
Nigeria (MDCN) (MDCN) (MDCN)In May of 2002, he joined Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye as a Lecturer II. In 2007 and 2012, he earned his Master's and Doctoral degrees from the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom.
In 2016, he was promoted to the position of professor of cancer pathology.
Professor Ayodeji Olayinka Johnson Agboola has written more than 50 peer-reviewed articles that have been published in local and international journals. He also teaches a wide range of courses in his field.
He has attended numerous professional conferences and successfully supervised cancer pathology Ph.D. dissertations.
Prof. Ayodeji Olayinka Johnson Agboola won the University of Nottingham Developing Solution Award in 2006 and the British Council Linkages Award in 2012, among others, in recognition of his innovative research in his area of expertise. He was also the first to conceptualize racial differences in breast cancer biology between Nigerian and British women.
As a member of the International Consortium for Advancing Research on Triple Negative Breast Cancer (CART), whose goal is to reduce differences in cancer health around the world, his creativity also won him international praise.
Prof. Agboola, who is now the University's Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), has done a lot of good work for the University in many different roles.

Acting Head, Department of Morbid Anatomy and Histopathology (2005-2006, 2008-2009, and 2012-2017); Cognate Representative on the Board of Faculties of Pharmacy and Clinical Sciences; Director of Research, Linkages, and Advancements; and Chairman, Research, Linkages, and Advancements Committee (2017-2018).Prof. Agboola previously served as Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences (BMS) from June 2018 to May 2019; as a member of the Pharmaceutical and Medical Sciences Editorial Board (2012-2017); as a member of the Research Committee (2010-2016); as a member of the Linkages and Advancement Committee (2015-2016); and as Convener of the University Cancer Research Committee (2010-2016).(2012).
Professor Agboola has acted as an External Examiner for Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and the University of Ibadan for their Ph.D. examinations in 2019 and 2021, respectively.
Currently, he is a member of the OOUTH Management Board. In addition, he is a member of numerous professional bodies, such as the Pathological Society of Great Britain and Ireland (2008 to present), the European Pathological Society (2008 to present), the Nigerian Medical Association (2001 to present), the International Consortium for Advancing Research on Triple Negative Breast Cancer (2016 to present), and the International Academy of Pathology, West Africa Chapter (2018 to date).
The appointment will begin on Thursday, October 13, 2022, and will last for five years.
