On the other hand, on Saturday, October 15, there was an incident involving a fire at their Lekki residence, and Abimbola was caught up in the blaze.
She was taken to the hospital in an ambulance, but it was too late for her.
The suspect had responded to the passing of his wife by posting a series of videos to his Instagram account. In these videos, he claimed that his deceased wife had been abusive toward him and had destroyed his belongings.
The suspect may be seen in one of the films pointing at his head while screaming, "See what she did to me? " Just now, she struck me with her fist. I am currently bleeding like this. This is not acceptable to me."
In another video, the suspect was seen demonstrating his damaged vehicle while Abimbola could be heard yelling abuses at him in the background.
On his profile was a message that stated in part, "My greatest hurts will be at my funeral, everyone will be saying, Bimbo was such a lovely human, a clown, she's the one person you had on your sos call, she had the largest heart, very brilliant, she looked out for her family." Bobby yen yen yen, my dead body will one day wake up and yell, "Shut up all of you and bury me inside the ground so I may be with the Lord!"
Our correspondent examined the suspect's Instagram page on Monday, and found that the posts in question had been removed.
The deceased person's relatives issued a statement in which they demanded justice and stated that Ikenna had fled the area.
The following is an excerpt from the statement: "As you may be aware, on Saturday, October 15, 2022, Abimbola Martins passed away after succumbing to deadly burns sustained in an event that occurred at her house in Lagos. It has been a difficult time for her children, as well as her parents and siblings, and especially for her children. It is a tragedy that nobody should have to go through, particularly in the painful manner in which her life was cut short, and at the hands of a husband she had dedicated her life to. This is a tragedy that nobody should have to go through.
"During the course of their marriage, we tried on multiple occasions to save her from a dreadful circumstance that finally resulted in the loss of her life. Despite our best efforts, she was ultimately unable to be saved." Abimbola was a caring person who was also a devoted wife and mother. She prioritized the happiness and well-being of her children and the desire that they have both of their parents as role models for their upbringing more than she prioritized her own mental and emotional stability and happiness.
"The person responsible for this terrible act, her husband of 16 years, Ikenna Darryl Ogbonna, an auto dealer well known as IVD, is currently on the run, seeking to dodge prosecution. We are aware that it will not last forever.
"As the family tries to come to terms with this terrible loss, we would like to make an appeal to members of the public to join us in demanding that justice be done," we said. "We want to make sure that justice is served."
Despite this, the police spokeswoman, Hundeyin, stated that the suspect had been apprehended and was being sent to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Yaba.
