Karim Benzema of Real Madrid won the 2022 Player of the Year Ballon d'Or on Monday night in Paris.

Zinedine Zidane, who used to coach Real Madrid, gave out the award at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, France.
The striker started his thanks by saying that Zizou and Ronaldo had been important to him.
Benzema led both Spain's La Liga and the UEFA Champions League in scoring during the 2021/22 season, when Real Madrid won both titles.
Twelve of the last thirteen winners were either Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo. In 2018, Croatian midfielder Luka Modric ended the dominance.
Unlike Messi, he did not qualify for the finals this year, whereas Ronaldo did. Messi holds the record with seven victories, while Ronaldo has five.
"It had to be @Benzema # ballon d'or 2022," Real Madrid tweeted on their official English Twitter handle @realmadriden.
