The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) will decide on Thursday, October 13, 2022, whether or not to end its strike.
Following Monday, October 10, 2022's meeting between the union and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, rumors circulated that the union had called off the strike.

However, an unidentified ASUU member who talked to the Daily Trust refuted the rumor that union members would meet on Thursday.
“What is flying around is just a mere rumour. There are ways how to handle this type of issue in ASUU. Our NEC will meet on Thursday to take a decision,” the source said.

On Monday, February 14, 2022, ASUU started a strike that will last as long as it takes to get the government to meet its demands.
After many failed talks with the union, the government took the union to the National Industrial Court.
Recall that the court ordered ASUU to end the strike on September 21, 2022.
The trial judge, Polycarp Hamman, stopped the professors from continuing their strike until the outcome of the federal government's lawsuit against them.

However, the union was dissatisfied with the decision and appealed to the Appellate Court.
The Court of Appeal agreed with the Industrial Court's decision and told ASUU to start working right away.
The Nigeria Labour Congress has praised Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, for taking part in the dispute between the union and the government.
