Asuu To Call Of Strike This Week As Agreement Reached
The federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have struck a new deal.
The leaders of the House of Representatives came to a new agreement on Tuesday after four hours of talks at the National Assembly in Abuja. President Muhammadu Buhari, who is at the UN General Assembly meeting right now, has to agree to the deal before it can be put into action.
At the meeting, the federal government was represented by Minister of State for Education Goodluck Opiah, while the ASUU was led by its President Emmanuel Osodeke.
The meeting's chair, Femi Gbajabiamila, declared after the secret session that "agreements were made," although he did not specify what those agreements were.
He said that ASUU will tell its members about the agreement, and when President Buhari gets there, lawmakers will do the same.

"There were basically seven areas where ASUU has presented what we considered to be a request for them to go back on strike. We have examined these seven categories and come to a general consensus on a number of them.
When that's over, the House's top brass can relax and wait for Mr. President to return from the ongoing UN General Assembly. We're planning to have a chat with the President.
The legislative branch's compromise will be laid out. With Mr. President's support, he said, "I am hopeful that this matter will be swiftly brought to a close."
On Thursday, the legislators will meet with the National Information Technology Development Agency, the Accountant General of the Federation, the Auditor General of the Federation, and the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission to talk more.
The president of ASUU commented on the meeting, saying that the problem will be fixed shortly.
"It is a good development, and we are waiting for what they will send to us to commit our members. For the sake of everyone involved, we really do wish for a swift resolution to this problem.
